Yesterday I learned that Google's Local Business Center made changes and renamed the LBC to Google Places as of April 20th. Exactly why trying to keep up everyday is so important.
It got me thinking that it might be nice to add a sticky thread "Head's Up" or "Alerts" where we could post significant changes that really impact our everyday work with offline clients -- LBC change being a perfect example.
Spent part of yesterday doing some research on this and will start a separate thread to share what I found.
(Posted this on OPF as well -- don't know how many keep up with both forums.)

Great idea!
New forum section just created dedicated to recent announcements and news!

Hi Dexx
My thinking for asking for a "sticky" was to keep important changes on the front page of the main forum where we wouldn't have to go digging to see if there was something very important we need to be aware of. A lot of us check daily, sometimes in a hurry -- just makes it more time consuming this way. If it was on the main page, a quick check of date posted would tell us if a new update had been added.
Just a though...

Hard to have a discussion on various updates within 1 thread, can get hard to follow, and some topics will become old and no longer a "new update" which then makes a good portion of that threads posts old news.
Which basically means needing multiple sticky threads for each individual topic, or otherwise only allowing one "news update" post in the sticky thread and then a separate thread(s) going to actually discuss the changes / affects...which I don't want leading to more clutter.
I mean as it stands now, if a news item is a "hot topic" it'll stay at the top of the Recent Topics listing anyways as people comment and post in the thread, so assuming most people skim that listing for interesting threads, they'll see it anyways.
Hopes that helps clarify stuff!
Been meaning to create an announcements section related to the forum (for what I need to make one) so this is a natural fit too =)
Cheers,
