Default 1 Charity Event - 2 New Clients...

    Hi there,

Quite happy in closing my first couple of clients at a charity (business) event last week. It was a little bit out of the blue to be honest, I hadnt gone there to drum up new business, I just felt like going for it! I talked to sooooo many people, most didnt really want to know as it wasnt really a great time to be prospecting! But I took 12 business cards and I've taken two on as clients.

One thing I didnt expect to happen was for me to come home and tell my girlfriend I actually love chatting to business owners and trying to get some business. There's nothing like the feeling you get when you're actually giving someone awsome information and then they say, "can you do that for me?". For me, its a buzz, I get a massive kick out of it!!!!

Im off to a few networking events next week. Ive taken the Joe Girrard approach to this (check out his sales book) and that is make sure EVERYONE knows what I do for a living.

I cant wait to get going. Thanks to Dexx for this forum which kicked me up the arse.

    Mike.

PS I remember seeing a post with some material about someone who had great success handing out postcards instead of business cards a networking events - does anyone know if that was on here, I think its a great idea, just cant remember who it was!!!

    Thanks again,

Maria Gudelis does that (or did that), bright yellow postcards I believe

I've heard mixed reviews on the strategy, some say it makes you stand out, some day it leads to your cards getting tossed because they aren't very convenient to hold on to during the night (vs sliding a business card in a pocket)

Best thing to do is test for yourself I suppose =P

But CONGRATS either way for taking action and showing how simple it really is!

Basic rule: The more value you GIVE AWAY the more you'll get back in return

    Keep it up!

    Hey Dexx,

Thanks for that mate. Yeah I agree. I think the most satisfying thing is knowing I am working with people I can help and provide value for and I have no problem going above and beyond for clients. I must say, I have changed my mindset completely. I no longer chase the money, I chase people I want to help, this is my goal. Just by doing this, its almost taken a weight off and positive things are happening every day!

Ill test the post card tactic next week and post my findings here on my new favourite forum :-)

    Cheers,
